Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do NearbyAds benefit me?

If you
  • Own a store, or several stores
  • Run a local service, or
  • Are looking to sell a physical item (eg. house, car, boat, or TV)
Then the NearbyAds service can
  • Introduce exclusive local customers to your business, who are already looking for what you sell in your precise location
  • Increase your advertising conversion ratio
  • Reduce your advertising costs
  • Increase foot-traffic sales

2. How much do NearbyAds cost me?

It is free* to display an ad.

You pay a few cents each time a customer clicks on your ad.  A customer will already know where you are and what you sell, by the time they click for more information.

How much you pay per click is largely your decision.  If your aim is to be listed in the first advertiser position, you must pay more per click than other advertisers in your local area. There is a minimum payment of 10 cents per click.

The number of click-throughs your ad receives is based on:
  • How many users live near your ad.
  • How many users enter keywords that match your ad's keywords.
  • How high you have set your 'Price Per Click'.
  • How relevant your advertising message is.
*With the exception that your account is only activated after you have paid no less than $15 into it.

3. What happens if my account runs out of money?

When you are nearing a balance of $0, we will e-mail you a helpful reminder to put more money into your account.

When your account reaches $0, all of your advertisements are deactivated. They can be restarted as soon as you pay into your account again.

4.  How do I pay?

Using a credit card securely online (VISA/Mastercard/American Express/Discover). You can log in at any time to your NearbyAds account and make an additional payment, which will increase your account balance immediately.

There is a minimum of $15 for a single payment.

5.  How should I write my advertising message?

In general, keep it short, and to the point.  Tell people how your product or service benefits them, rather than simply what its features are.

6.  How does this service differ from other search advertising services?

NearbyAds is the first service to combine pinpoint geographic targeting with flexible keywords, which means that you can now sell any item or service to people nearby on the Internet.

You can pinpoint your ads to a street address, which achieves maximum exposure in your local area, and bypasses the large number of nuisance clicks from customers across the country; who are usually unlikely to travel and purchase from your store.  This means that your total advertising conversion rate is higher, and you save money on every click.

7.  What is the geographic range of my ad?  Is it restricted to a zip code or a city?

For each of your customers, the closer they live to your ad's location the higher your ad will rank.

If you imagine your ad's influence being shaped like a lamp shade, with the top rank for the ad being achieved in the middle of the lamp shade (i.e. the location you have given the ad).  From here, the ad's influence is diminished the further away towards the lamp shade's edges the customer is.  The ad's range is unlimited, but it will be gradually overtaken by competing ads further away from its source.

A rare item can be sold to a buyer hundreds of miles away if there are no competitors between your ad and the buyer.  An ad is not restricted by zip code, city, or state boundaries.

8.  How many ads am I allowed?

As many ads as necessary.  These could represent multiple stores, or simply different ways of phrasing your message.  For large numbers of variations (> 30), we recommend contacting us about uploading  a "CSV" file.

9.  Can I start and stop an ad when I like?

Yes, the 'Active' tick can be switched on and off.  You may have to wait up to 5 minutes before the change takes effect, however.
